We only collect the data needed to run the service:

• Account data: name, email address, password (stored encrypted), date of birth and age-assurance status, where applicable
• Service usage data: the stories you start, the narrative choices you make within a story, your progress and completion status, any shared stories you take part in
• Creator data: the narrative experiences you create or publish, if you have the Creator role
• Sponsor data: your organization's name and logo, if you manage a Sponsor account
• Technical data: IP address, browser user agent, and similar diagnostic information, collected automatically by our hosting for security and operational purposes

If you use Parenk without an account, for example to join a shared story as a guest, you're assigned a temporary technical identifier, not linked to any personal data, that lets us recognize you within that session.

We use your data to:

• Provide the service: sign you into your account, let you live stories, save your progress
• Check your eligibility for certain content, when a narrative experience has an age requirement
• Send you necessary communications about your account, such as email verification
• Keep the service secure and working, detect and prevent misuse
• If enabled, measure how the service is used in aggregate, anonymous form, in order to improve it (see the dedicated section below and our Cookie Policy)

We don't use your data for third-party advertising, and we don't sell it to anyone.

We process your data on the basis of:

• Performance of the contract between you and Parenk, to provide the service you requested by creating an account
• Our legitimate interest in keeping the service secure, working, and free from misuse
• Your consent, for the optional measurement and analytics activities described in the Cookie Policy
• A legal obligation, where applicable

The site uses a minimal set of necessary technical cookies, for example to remember the language you chose, and is built to support, though hasn't yet activated, aggregate and anonymous traffic analytics. We share personal data with third parties only when strictly necessary:

• Infrastructure and hosting providers, who process data on our behalf to run the service
• AI providers, currently Google Gemini and Groq, used exclusively to generate narrative content from prompts written by Creators: we don't share your personal data as a reader with these providers
• If and when we activate analytics (see Cookie Policy), Google, as the provider of Google Analytics

We don't sell or rent your personal data to anyone.

Some narrative experiences on Parenk are restricted to readers above a certain age. For these, we currently ask you to declare your date of birth: this is a self-declared age, not verified against an identity document.

In the future, for content that requires it, we may rely on a third-party age-verification provider, which would process the data needed for that purpose under its own notice: this page will be updated before that happens.

We keep your data for as long as your account stays active, or for as long as needed to provide the service. If you deactivate or ask us to delete your account, we delete or anonymize any data we aren't required to keep for legal obligations or a legitimate security interest.

Under the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and applicable law, you have the right to:

• Access the personal data we hold about you
• Request its correction, if inaccurate or incomplete
• Request its deletion
• Request that processing be restricted
• Receive your data in a structured format (portability)
• Object to processing based on our legitimate interest
• Withdraw any consent you've given, at any time

To exercise any of these rights, write to us at [email protected]. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the data protection authority responsible for you.

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your data, including password encryption, role-based access control (reader, Creator, Sponsor, admin), and limiting data access to staff who actually need it. No system is 100% secure: if we ever detect a breach affecting you, we'll notify you as required by law.

Some of the providers we use, for example for cloud infrastructure, AI, or, if activated, traffic analytics, may process data outside the European Economic Area. In these cases, we make sure the transfer relies on adequate safeguards, such as the European Commission's standard contractual clauses.

We may update this notice over time, for example when we introduce new features that process personal data. If a change is significant, we'll make it clearly visible on the site. The date of the last update is shown at the top of this page.
